OVERFILL PREVENTION

The Buncefield Explosion in 2005 has raised awareness of tank overfill prevention within the terminals industry. Compliance to industry standards like API 2350 and IEC 61511 has become a key requirement for all liquid hydrocarbon terminal operators.

ALARMSCOUT A15

The AlarmScout A15 can be used to detect high or low level switch points in a broad range of products or internal/external floating roof applications. It does not require a power supply – a mechanical switch is activated/deactivated by a displacer following the product level or the floating roof. A proof test arrangement is included for diagnostic purposes and the device can be approved for use in SIL-2 rated loops.

ALARMSCOUT 910

The AlarmScout 910 is an ultrasonic probe used to detect high or low level switch points in a broad range of viscous to light products. Switch points can be used for safety functions such as alarm or trip via an integrated DPDT relay. The AlarmScout 910 has one set-point at the tip of the probe and can be used in SIL-2 rated loops.

ALARMSCOUT 961/962

The AlarmScout 961/962 is also an ultrasonic probe used for detecting high or low level switch points in viscous to light products. The 961 has a tip sensitive switchpoint, whilst the 962 offers two setpoints – one on the tip, and a second switchpoint along the length of the probe via a flow through gap. The 961/962 is equipped with advanced diagnostics that continuously checks the transducer and electronics, and it can be used in SIL-2 rated loops.

HC900

Safety Controller

The HC900 safety controller is a SIL-2 approved controller that can be used for tank level alarms and control loops. It offers the flexibility of hosting both safety and process control applications on a single platform.

International standards recommend the implementation of an overfill prevention system that is completely separate from the tank gauging systems. Separate means that no component of the tank gauging system should form part of the safety system. Universal Measurement and Control offers a range of level alarm sensors, logic solvers and even tank gauges that can be used in safety applications. Additionally, Universal Measurement and Control is capable of advising on how best to meet the requirements of standards such as API 2350.
