MANUAL GAUGING AND SAMPLING
Measurement accuracy is essential for the sale, purchase and handling of petroleum products. Although automatic tank gauging is in widespread use, manual tank gauging is the method for calibrating ATG systems. Accurate manual dipping is therefore essential.
TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT
Temperature measurement is an important aspect of tank gauging since the density of petroleum products changes by approximately 0.1% per °C.
The HERMetic Onecal is an intrinsically safe portable digital thermometer. It has been designed for use in hazardous environments with outstanding characteristics regarding safety, ease of operation, accuracy, reliability and cost efficient maintenance. Up to 33.5 m long, it can be used to measure the temperature at any level in a storage tank.
PRODUCT SAMPLING
The HERMetic range of samplers allow for closed sampling of liquids or chemicals from storage tanks. The gas tight construction of these samplers avoids pressure release from the tank and exposure to fumes during operation. A range of sample bottles allows for spot, zone, running and bottom samples to be taken. A range of vapour lock valves are available that are designed to fit all HERMetic equipment including samplers and gauges.
PORTABLE ELECTRONIC GAUGING ELIMINATES THE UNCERTAINTY ASSOCIATED WITH TRADITIONAL TANK DIPPING METHODS.
Portable Electronic Gauges
PEGs are multi-functional in that they can measure temperature and oil/water interface in addition to ullage. PEGs are more accurate and repeatable than traditional manual dipping techniques.
Open gauging
An open gauging device is used on an open dip hatch. With an open dip hatch, hydrocarbon or other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) may be released into the atmosphere.
Closed gauging
Where the release of VOCs has to be avoided from a safety or environmental point of view, closed gauging can be used. Manual measurements are made via a vapour lock valve using a closed measurement device.

HERMetic UTImeter OTEX
The HERMetic UTImeter Otex is a portable liquid level gauge designed to be operated under open conditions on petroleum and chemical storage tanks where open gauging is permitted. The unit is used for custody transfer, inventory control measurement and free water detection on shore tanks. The HERMetic UTImeter Otex is set on the open gauging hatch.
HERMetic UTImeter Gtex 2000
The HERMetic UTImeter Gtex 2000 is a portable gas tight liquid level gauge designed to operate on top of closed petroleum and chemical tanks. The unit is used for custody transfer, inventory control measurement and free water detection on shore tanks. Connected to a HERMetic vapour control valve fixed on the tank, the HERMetic UTImeter Gtex 2000 avoids any gas release during operation.
